Video Art and Experimental Film Festival 2021
Presented at Tribeca Film Center and Producers Club Theaters
NEW YORK, NY, November 19th-21st – The Eleventh Annual Video Art and Experimental Film Festival (VAEFF) will once again be introducing New York City to the most conceptually and aesthetically arresting video art and experimental films from around the world.
The festival continues with the ever-popular “Beauty, Sex & Shame” program, and will be bringing back last year’s programs: “On the Edge,” “Color, Movement & Space.” and “Between Fashion & Music”, a selection hand-picked by publicist and curator Niccolo Montanari. We will also be debuting the new “Isolation” program.
VAEFF continues to invite a number of artists who amaze the art, film, and media worlds with their exceptional portfolio of work. The resulting lineup is a captivating roster of both established and emerging artists from around the globe.
VAEFF 2021 will start on November 19th at Tribeca Film Center with a Kick-Off Event that will host all of the attending artists featured in the festival.
The festival will continue on November 20th at Producer Club Theaters with more screenings of selected films from 2021, each followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers moderated by Mark Alpert.
On November 21st, VAEFF will present screenings from the film selections of 2020.

Program Descriptions:
Between Fashion & Music: “I enjoy curating content partly because I get to screen some of my latest favourite pieces. But it also gives me the time to reflect over what I have experienced recently and share my questions, thoughts and conclusions through my selection. As we all know, this year has been a particularly challenging one. We have all been affected by what is happening; we’ve learnt just how fragile our society truly is and that perhaps we had become too complacent with the way we were living. This year’s curation at Video Art and Experimental Film Festival is an expression of the zeitgeist seen through the eyes of talented directors working across music videos, fashion films and short films.” – Niccolo Montanari
Beauty, Sex & Shame: Beauty, Sex, & Shame is a VAEFF program of selected works that examines the interplay of beauty, sexual representation, and shame as expressed through fashion, art, and visual narratives. The works span from sexually provocative rebellion in the new digital age to intimate personal encounters with patriarchal and religious dogmas.
Color, Movement & Space: Color, Movement, & Space is a VAEFF program consisting of conceptually and stylistically innovative films from various genres, including music videos, animations, and fashion films.
On the Edge: On The Edge is a VAEFF program of films that pushes social, emotional, and psychological boundaries. Through the use of humor, horror and animation, these artists challenge societal norms.
Isolation: Isolation is a VAEFF program that explores themes of loneliness and ostracization: physical distance, emotional distance, societal estrangement and pandemic solitude.
Breaking Point: BREAKING POINT is a VAEFF curated program displaying characters confronted with the unthinkable. We watch as they attempt to overcome adversarial themes of loss, betrayal, belonging, and weakness with the hope of triumph.
Fashion Forward: FASHION FORWARD is a VAEFF program of films that puts fashion aesthetics at the forefront and reveals a landscape that highlights the interconnectedness and tension between video art and fashion.
