Director and Chief Curator Dan Fine is an award-winning artist who lives and works in New York City. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts and has exhibited work in the United States, Germany and Israel. Fine founded Videoart.net in 2005 and currently serves as its director and chief curator. In 2010, he established the Video Art & Experimental Film Festival in New York City.
Mark Alpert
Board Member and Panel Moderator Mark Alpert is the author of the international bestselling novel Final Theory and its sequel, The Omega Theory. A longtime journalist who has worked for newspapers, magazines and television, he focuses his writing on the connections between science and art. He is a graduate of Princeton and Columbia and currently a contributing editor at Scientific American. His books have been published in more than twenty languages.
Niccolo Montanari
Guest Curator Niccolo Montanari was born in Italy and raised in the UK. He built his experience in fashion film as one of the founding members of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Since 2016 he has worked with film directors, production companies and agencies to support them in the distribution of video content across online media and international film festivals. Learn More
Yael Bermundez
Artists Coordinator and Co-moderator Yael Bermudez is a producer, writer, and curator from Queens, New York. She is currently a second-year Creative Producing concentrate and Bridges Larsons Fellow at Columbia University, where she’s working towards her MFA degree.
Carmela Del Vecchio
Senior Curator Carmela Del Vecchio is a TV/Film Professional based in New York. Her background is as a Production Manager having worked for MTV, among others. She received her Master’s Degree in Media Studies & Film Production Certificate from The New School. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film is from Marist College. She has a passion for film and currently has a short film in post production which she wrote, produced and directed. Carmela joined the VAEFF team in 2019.
Yijiu Wang
Associate Curator Yijiu Wang is a writer and film critic based in New York. She holds a BA in Art History with a concentration in French and Film Studies, and is currently applying for graduate programs in tv/film production.
Brian Mark
Associate Curator Brian Mark is an award winning composer, pianist and video artist based in Brooklyn. His works have been performed by the BBC Singers, Chelsea Symphony, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Ligeti Quartet, members of the London Symphony Orchestra and others. His video installations have been shown in venues and art galleries in the US, UK and throughout Europe. Brian has received grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council, Jerome Fund, Mozaik Philanthropy, and ASCAP. He completed his PhD at the Royal Academy of Music.
Gustavo Valencia
Associate Curator Gustavo Valencia was born in Cali, Colombia, and has a strong passion for Hispanic arts and Dance performances. He’s a freelance videographer, photographer, and maestro in visual effects. He holds a BA in Digital Media and Film Production from the School of Visual Arts. He has accumulated 15 years of videography and post-production experience up to this day. Currently, He’s obsessed with innovative ways to edit brand product videos and artistic performances for his clients. When he’s not working, he enjoys watching documentaries, films, music videos, and live dance performance.
Paulette Maher
Intern Paulette Maher is an intern for the Fall 2022 season. They are participating with the New York Arts Program. They are currently a student at Oberlin College where they have a major in Cinema Studies, Minor in Writing and Communications, and a Concentration in Arts Administration and Leadership.
