Director and Chief Curator Dan Fine is an award-winning artist who lives and works in New York City. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts and has exhibited work in the United States, Germany and Israel. Fine founded Videoart.net in 2005 and currently serves as its director and chief curator. In 2010, he established the Video Art & Experimental Film Festival in New York City.
Board Member and Panel Moderator Mark Alpert is the author of the international bestselling novel Final Theory and its sequel, The Omega Theory. A longtime journalist who has worked for newspapers, magazines and television, he focuses his writing on the connections between science and art. He is a graduate of Princeton and Columbia and currently a contributing editor at Scientific American. His books have been published in more than twenty languages.
Guest Curator Niccolo Montanari was born in Italy and raised in the UK. He built his experience in fashion film as one of the founding members of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Since 2016 he has worked with film directors, production companies and agencies to support them in the distribution of video content across online media and international film festivals. Learn More
Senior Curator RJ Brown is an Actor/Producer living in New York City. Most recently he can be found in shows such as: 13 Reasons Why, The Carrie Diaries, The Blacklist, and many others. His production company Floor 1 Productions has produced commercials, music videos and short films; one of which was directed by Jonny Lee Miller and is currently on the festival circuit now. He’s thrilled to be a part of the VAEFF team and can’t wait to show the hard work of these talented filmmakers.
Carmela Del Vecchio
Senior Curator Carmela Del Vecchio is a TV/Film Professional based in New York. Her background is as a Production Manager having worked for MTV, among others. She received her Master’s Degree in Media Studies & Film Production Certificate from The New School. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film is from Marist College. She has a passion for film and currently has a short film in post production which she wrote, produced and directed. Carmela joined the VAEFF team in 2019.
Associate Curator and Artists Coordinator Yael Bermudez is a writer, producer, and freelance filmmaker in New York City. She is a first-year MFA candidate at Columbia University where she’s studying Creative Producing.
Associate Curator Brian Mark is an award winning composer, pianist and video artist based in Brooklyn. His works have been performed by the BBC Singers, Chelsea Symphony, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Ligeti Quartet, members of the London Symphony Orchestra and others. His video installations have been shown in venues and art galleries in the US, UK and throughout Europe. Brian has received grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council, Jerome Fund, Mozaik Philanthropy, and ASCAP. He completed his PhD at the Royal Academy of Music.
Associate Curator Kathleen Pizzo is a NYC based actor and writer, originally from San Francisco. She holds a BA in journalism from Sacramento State University and is currently a conservatory student at the Atlantic Acting School. She has worked with and performed on-stage at the Marin Theatre Company, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and with the Atlantic Acting School.
Associate Curator Divesh Brahmbhatt is a NY-born, AR-bred, and now NY-based media research professional for publications like Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ. They completed a double BA in Math and German from the University of Arkansas before completing graduate film work at DePaul University in Chicago, sparking an immense passion for film leading to work on independent sets and volunteering for the likes of Chicago Int’l Film Festival (CIFF) and Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF). Currently, they are devoted to film analysis with all their spare time and excited to channel it toward curation, joining the VAEFF team in 2020.
Associate Curator Kenneth Sousie is a multimedia artist from New York. A filmmaker, he specializes in documentary, telling underdog stories cinematically. He is in pre-production for his first fiction anthology film.
Associate Curator Catalina Giraldo is a Colombian-American video artist and writer based in New York. She holds a BFA from Syracuse University, where she majored in Art Video and studied sociology and world literature.
Associate Curator Jerry Ramirez is a New Zealand born artist and filmmaker living in New York City. Holding a BFA from Massey University with an exchange program at UC San Diego, he has a demonstrated background in fine arts and an avid fascination in experimentation and pop culture.
Associate Curator Maria Castillo is a New York based filmmaker and sound designer. She holds a BFA in Film/Video from Pratt Institute and has returned to Pratt to pursue a Masters in Media Studies.
Associate Curator Nicole Majewski is a New York based filmmaker and sound designer. She holds a BFA in Film/Video from Pratt Institute and has returned to Pratt to pursue a Masters in Media Studies.
Festival Coordinator Itamar Gil is a student living in New York City. Currently studying Film and Business at Columbia University, he coordinates the relationship between VAEFF and Columbia University’s ArtC student group.
Resident Intern Anna Edmiston is an intern for VAEFF as a part of the New York Arts Program. She is studying at Ohio Wesleyan University with majors in English-Creative Writing and Film.
Associate Curator Mike is a NYC-based Videographer that has been in the film & video production industry for over 12 years. In the past 5 years he has worked on over 100 episodes for The Huffington Post, filming all types of videos from mini-docs to explainer videos, op-ed pieces, and multi-media studio shoots. He has an eye for composition, a specialty in lighting, and a thorough ability to work in all facets of production.
