Director and Chief Curator Dan Fine is an award-winning artist who lives and works in New York City. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts and has exhibited work in the United States, Germany and Israel. Fine founded Videoart.net in 2005 and currently serves as its director and chief curator. In 2010, he established the Video Art & Experimental Film Festival in New York City.
Board Member and Panel Moderator Mark Alpert is the author of the international bestselling novel Final Theory and its sequel, The Omega Theory. A longtime journalist who has worked for newspapers, magazines and television, he focuses his writing on the connections between science and art. He is a graduate of Princeton and Columbia and currently a contributing editor at Scientific American. His books have been published in more than twenty languages.
Guest Curator Niccolo Montanari was born in Italy and raised in the UK. He built his experience in fashion film as one of the founding members of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Associate Curator Adrianna Najchow was raised in Warsaw and New York City, and has a passion for both art and film. Having a BS in corporate communication, design and digital media, a minor in media studies (CUNY, May 2018), as well as a diploma from a Technical Photography School (Europe, 2016), her passion for art and film has paved the way for her to work at the Bushwick Film Festival and now VAEFF.
Associate Curator Britney Franco is a film production major and writer from Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been published by Rookie Mag, Complex, The Poetry Foundation, and The New York Times Learning Network.
Associate Curator Amy Chabassier is a French-American film critic based in New York, currently completing a masters in cinema studies at NYU Tisch. She previously studied film and electronic arts at Bard College.
Associate Curator RJ Brown is an Actor/Producer living in New York City. Most recently he can be found in shows such as: 13 Reasons Why, The Carrie Diaries, The Blacklist, and many others. His production company Floor 1 Productions has produced commercials, music videos and short films; one of which was directed by Jonny Lee Miller and is currently on the festival circuit now. He’s thrilled to be a part of the VAEFF team and can’t wait to show the hard work of these talented filmmakers.
Carmela Del Vecchio
Associate Curator Carmela Del Vecchio is a TV/Film Professional based in New York. Her background is as a Production Manager having worked for MTV, among others. She received her Master’s Degree in Media Studies & Film Production Certificate from The New School. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film is from Marist College. She has a passion for film and currently has a short film in post production which she wrote, produced and directed. Carmela joined the VAEFF team in 2019.
Associate Curator Michael McGuirk is a filmmaker producing independent projects that explore the evolving notion of cinema. He holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago, where he studied theater and filmmaking with related programs at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Associate Curator Jerry Ramirez is a New Zealand born artist and filmmaker living in New York City. Holding a BFA from Massey University with an exchange program at UC San Diego, he has a demonstrated background in fine arts and an avid fascination in experimentation and pop culture.
Associate Curator Kevin Vu is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. He received his MFA in filmmaking from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Associate Curator Lolo Ostia is a New York based visual artist. She graduated from Parsons, The New School of Design with a degree in Photography and Moving Image. She currently works as a Director of Photography and joined the VAEFF team in 2019.
Creative Advisor and Board Member Neco Turkienicz is an international accomplished film director and editor, living in New York. He directed and edited seven documentary films for Israeli television and has served as Creative Director in two major animation companies in New York. He has been a board member and creative advisor at VAEFF since 2010.
Associate Curator Ellison Williams is a Production Assistant and art cinema devotee in New York City. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in English and Creative Writing from Montclair State University in 2013 and joined VAEFF in 2017.
